GHC Providers who can diagnose tongue tie?

Hi all-

I'm from Madison, WI and I have a 2.5 week old son who I suspect has tongue-tie.

Can anyone recommend a GHC provider that can diagnose this condition? I've been given the names of a couple docs in Madison who specialize in the condition, but they're not on our insurance. :(

Hi, sorry I don't have a specific answer for you... are you looking for a diagnosis because it is causing issues BF?  If not, there may not be a need for diagnosis.  If it's causing problems, though, I'd ask your family dr or pediatrician & if they can't help, look up an ENT that's covered by your insurance.

My youngest had tongue-tie and even though his was really obvious, it didn't cause any problems with his latch, so we left it alone til he was about a year old -- He was having trouble chewing/swallowing & was diagnosed with enlarged adenoids, so when they were removing those, we asked that they do the frenulectomy too... My sister had tongue-tie as a baby but hers corrected over time without clipping.  We know another boy whos tongue tie looked just as extreme as my son's (at 12 he could hardly stick it out past his lips) but he never had any issues with nursing, eating or speech -- Just throwing it out there that it's not a problem for everyone :)
