I need some help with newborn

Thread Starter

My baby was born Sat. and she wants to nurse every hour.  The problem is she doesn't have a great latch and my nipple is so sore, cracked and bleeding.  She doesn't open wide so she tends to get just the end of the nipple.  The ped. said she will probably do better once she gets a little stronger but in the mean time I am in so much pain.  My last never had any issues so this is new to me.  What can I do so she doesn't nurse every hour or what can I do to help heal the nipple?  I am using the Lansionoh cream but that only helps so much.  Bottles are NOT an option either.

nak so short - sorry.

1) you can do this - hang in there

2) painkillers - do you normally take advil or tylenol? They are fine when nursing and will help with pain

3) call a good IBCLC and have baby's latch looked at and checked for tongue-tie too. Shallow latch and tongue-tie may impede good milk transfer so baby feeds more frequently, plus it hurts.

4) nursing every hour is normal for the first few weeks hug2.gif

5) LLL - they are awesome! A leader may even do a house call. Phone asap.

6) have you tried the laidback position? http://www.biologicalnurturing.com/

sorry so short. you are not alone - there are people here and in real life who care and will help. hang in there!
