What is the going rate for babysitting?

Thread Starter

My teen daughter has started babysitting (more than she has in the past).

I just want to make sure that she is being paid fairly, and that she's not overcharging.

What is the going rate for babysitting?  I'm talking hourly.  Does the number of kids make a difference?

I posted this in the Tribal areas, because I know that different areas might have very different prices for babysitting.

Thanks!

We've paid $4/hr all the way to $13/hr. Yes, I think it usually depends on the # of kids.

The age and qualifications of the sitter also come in to play.  For a 14-15 year old who plays with my 2 year old while I am home doing things I pay 7-8/hr, for a qualified sitter (Nanny who babysits on the side, nursing student) I pay 14-15/hr.  Most charge .50-1.00 an hour more for additional children.  HTH
