Thanks everyone for your advice.. I have realized that this forum is not the best place to be discussing such personal things!

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this, but I'm so glad you had the strength to leave him. My only real advice to you, which you may have already done, is to contact any and all local DV resources in your area and see if any of them can hook you up with a lawyer. Since you have an actual criminal prosecution for DV, I would really hope there would be some kind of legal aid out there for you. Good luck and stay strong.

Just my experience if your kids father is listed on the birth certificate HE can request the document from the office of vital stats. I think he can then request a SSN card or documentation of the number.  There may be a fee for the BC but thats no different than the fee you had to pay for YOUR copy.

yes if he is on the birth certificate he can request a certified copy for a fee.   He can do that on his own.    My X did it because I refused to do it for him

iirc you can put an alert on a passport application so that he cannot apply for one.  I don't recall all the details, but I came across it when dd was traveling out of the country with her father 2 years ago.

good luck
