Xylitol ok during pregnancy?

I'm sure there is an obvious answer to this, but I can't seem to find one.

Is Xylitol safe for pregnant women? I'm thinking of starting to add it to my tea instead of sugar, but don't want to take any chances.

Thanks!

I haven't seen any counterindications. Which of course doesn't necessarily mean anything. If you are concerned, you could rinse your mouth 3-4 times per day for 3-4 minutes, and then spit it out. It seems this is the most effective way to reduce the harmful bacteria anyway. Doses less than 6g don't seem to be effective, so I just prefer to know how much I'm taking, rather than putting it in tea and food / cooking with it.

Yes! My ND told me to chew xylitol gum during pregnancy (especially during the weeks that the teeth buds are developing), to help strengthen the baby's teeth.
