My son began street performing when he was 6...supervised of course. He's 14 now and stills performs. He also works a few nights a week in a local restaurant.

DD worked in the same restaurant last summer. When she was 15. They enjoy the autonomy making their own money gives them. During the school year, I limit their work hours to weekends.

Neither one of them have had much interest in babysitting either.

My son is 15 and works for his dad (who is self-employed of 25 years) doing whatever he needs him to do and he also helps his dad with his rental properties with painting, cleaning, carpentry and whatever else he needs. He has been doing this since he was 13 years old. Before then, beginning at the age of 11, he was driving the tractor on our land, doing all the yard work almost by himself and anything outdoors related. He is a hard worker. I am proud of him because there are so many lazy teenagers out there just living life having fun and thinking they are somehow owed a life of fun during their teenage years. It's sickening IMO. All children should learn hard work from a young age, at least starting by the age of 15/16 if at all possible.
