help me make some floor pillows

Thread Starter

DD loves to crawl around on the floor up and over pillows. I'm hoping to make some larger sized floor pillows, but I'd love to fill them with something heavier than just pillow fill/stuffing. Since they'd be larger, not beans, plus I'd like them to be able to get wet (drool!) should that happen. I'm imagining square pillows with "sides" so that they have a bit of natural height built into them. But....what to fill/stuff them with?

Ideas? Suggestions? Sources?

Thanks!

have you thought about foam?  a bit denser than regular 'fluff'  - you can buy it cut to spec from Joannes.  It comes 1" thick up to about 6" thick.  You could get a large rectangle about 4" think - wrap in quilt batt  -then cover with a muslin or something inexpensive  like that.  Make a case for it - you can wash the case.  I think the foam is washable if need be...but would probably take three days to dry!

My only other suggestion would be using plastic bags - you know like the ones at the grocery store....it is supposed to be a great simulation of a 'bean bag' chair.

I stuff throw pillow forms with my smallest scraps, serger trimmings, and etc.  We like this MUCH better than fluff, as they are heavier and nicer. Batting, flannel, felt, fleece, old T scraps, even old or odd socks shredded are soft; if you cut everything up really small it won't be lumpy at all.

I just keep a drawstring garbage bag in the sewing room closet and stuff it with tiny scraps instead of throwing them away; it adds up fast.
