A touching moment

Just this past weekend I was at my grandmothers house doing my familt tree.
Eventually we got the subject of her daughter Elizabeth who died when she was 1 day old. My grandfather burried her but never -until that day - told her where.
It was such a touching moment! I have never seen my grndmother so exposed, I guess. There was a gleam of peace and sorrow in her eyes and she became quite and introspective, tears welling in her eyes.
It just hit home to me that even after nearly 50yrs a mother will still feel a maternal bond towards her daughter.

Raven - thank you, you touched me deeply. Having lost a child at birth, you bring me hope that my love and grief was not in vain.

The last time I saw my grandmother, she was deeply affected by Alzheimer's and made very little sense.

She repeatedly asked me how many children I had, so I asked her the same question. To my surprise, she said that she had five children, when I *knew* that she only had four.

Turns out that her first child was stillborn. No one had ever told me.

I find it deeply touching that her first meant as much to her as her second, third, fourth and fifth, so much so that she was able to remember him when she could remember little else.

My grandmother never forgot the children she lost to miscarriage. She mentioned them often and with much sadness. You never really get over such a loss.

I am so glad your grandfather told her where her baby had been buried..maybe he is finally beginning to understadn what he took away.

I think knowing where her child was burried is a great relief to her. I think my g/father realised that there was a void inside her...

I just feel so humbled by her strength to continue to love. Its very beautiful.
