Mother of legal adult!

Yes, today my ds is 18. I am now the mother of a legal adult. He is a great kid and now we are ready to move on to the "college years". He does still act more like a typical teenager than an adult though, how long does that last? FWIW, to all you young moms, it really does go by as fast as they say it does.

My son will be 18 next month. I was just looking at his baby pictures, I cannot believe the time went by so fast.

So, on to the next phase of life. Being a parent to adults. Do you think that it will be hard?

I don't know if it will be harder. He will be in college in the fall, so I won't be there everyday with my "helpful" advice. I will have to try to remember to back off a bit with advice when he comes home after being on his own and to give him more freedom too. Luckily, I still have dd1 and ds5 at home to keep me busy. It really is bittersweet watching them grow up isn't it?

Will he be going far away to college?

He is going to school in Boston, only a little over an hour from here. I think it's good, far enough for him, but close enough to come home when he needs to.

My two oldest both went to school in Boston!! One at Suffolk University and the other at Emerson. They both have graduated and continue to live in the Boston area. They are about an hour away from us...so we still get to see them often.

Thank you peggy! I don't think it will seem real until we actually drive him up and then have to turn around and leave him there. He is very excited, he always wanted to live in a big city, but I can tell he is a little scared too. He is very independent and self-motivated, so I think he will do fine. The years really did fly by (well except for maybe the years he was 13 and 14 :.
