Method & containers for freezing berries?

We're going next week to pick organic strawberries and I'm hoping to freeze a bunch so we don't have to spend so much for good fruit in the winter.  In the past I've frozen berries in freezer bags (or sometimes in smaller "snack sized" bags inside freezer bags).

I've been trying to eliminate plastic for storing food, but is there another good choice that won't cost a small fortune?  My budget is tiiiny and I just can't envision freezing berries in glass containers.  Would it work to wrap small amounts in wax paper or something, and freeze the bundles in a container--or would I just end up with berries stuck to wax paper and/or nasty freezer burned berries?

Any other tips for freezing fruit?  We just mostly froze blueberries last year, and they froze very nicely if I let them dry before putting them in the freezer.

We freeze everything in glass so I can't help you there.  But, one way to freeze is to spread the berries out on a cookie sheet (or several), pop them in the freezer for a few hours until they're frozen, and then throw them in a bag or whatever so they don't all clump together.

I read that tip somewhere--I might try it but I'm hoping to have far too many berries to have room for on cookie sheets in my freezer. :D

What kind of freezer containers do you use?  Amazon had a lot of like 3-container sets for $15 or so--is there something better/cheaper?

We use Pyrex and CorningWare.  I've bought them at Target and (gasp) Walmart.  They are a bit of an investment, but I am really glad I have them.  The Pyrex is practically indestructible and you can also cook in them. If I was just going to freeze berries I wouldn't invest in them, but we freeze stuff constantly so I'm glad I have them.

I don't see wax paper as working for long term storage or for wrapping around fruits or veggies unless you put it into another container and then what's the point lol. I freeze berries all the time. I prep them, so for strawberries I cut out the stem and I may cut big ones in 1/2. I individually freeze them on sheet pans lined with wax paper and covered with a plastic lid. When they are firm I transfer them to other containers for storage. But I tend to use them up pretty quickly so I'm doing this every few weeks so I don't worry about plastic bags. I do have pyrex I could use in the freezer but it take up a lot more space due to wasted air space in those.

We do the cookie sheet thing. Just do it in batches, they don't all need to be frozen at once. For frozen berries, I would put them in freezer bags. I'm not worried about anything transferring to the food when it's frozen and I don't have enough space in my freezer to store everything in glass.
