Can WATER make you sick?!?!

Well obviously it can since it does make me sick...

But just wondering if anyone has any info/experience with this.

ETA: OK just realized my post was way too long so I removed all that!!

Well....drinking absurdly large amounts of water can cause water intoxication. But that's rare and usually happens when groups of dumb people get together to have water drinking contests.

Other than that, clean water shouldn't make you sick.

Haha no I'm not drinking any absurd amount. wink1.gif I'm lucky if I can get 2 cups down a day... And it never seems to make anyone else sick so I assume it's clean enough...

Oh, so you mean can water make you FEEL sick? You aren't truly sick with some sort of infection or injury (like with water intoxication), right?

Sure it can. If my stomach is too empty and my blood sugar is low, plain water upsets my stomach. I don't know why; it doesn't seem to make sense, but it happens. Especially when I was pregnant. Drinking it at room temperature seemed to help.

I didn't read your first post before you edited it so I'm not sure what happens when you drink water, but you may want to read thru this thread about how flagging adrenals can cause an upset in electrolytes and make you feel icky when you drink water.

That makes a lot of sense! I had this pretty severely when my older dd was nursing a lot, although it was compounded by extreme thirst. It drove me nuts! It lasted until someone told me that my symptoms could be due to gluten and dairy sensitivity. I had been tested as intolerant to eggs, and when I decided to give up dairy and gluten, I gave egg up (again) too, and that very day my thirst abated. My tolerance for water was restored as well, but for years I would always put something in it, like lemon and salt, or trace minerals, and that helped. I'm really glad to know what causes it though (my adrenals were completely worn out at that time).

I also feel queasy when drinking water.... If I remember right, crunchy_mommy, I've seen you talk about having sensory issues. I also have sensory issues. I wonder if there could be a connection?

My DP makes fun of me and says it's my body having a reaction like, "Wait, where's the bubbles?! Where's the high fructose corn syrup?! What is going on????!!!" (I drink a lot of soda. bag.gif)

Drinking from different containers seems to result in different levels of queasiness, even if it's water from the same source. I have the best luck with those water bottles that have a built-in straw.

Yes, same here!! There are some containers I absolutely CANNOT drink from. Others I can tolerate. Drinking from glass is best, as long as there are no detergent residues on it. Maybe it is a sensory thing. shrug.gif

I experimented with adding salt to my water but had a hard time drinking it and am worried about too much salt...
