Help me diagnose my 15 month old..... thanks for reading:)

Hi there. Ds had a pretty high fever, from Wednesday night, through to this morning, when he woke up.

It was high, 103 - 104.8 at some point. He slept a lot, nursed tonnes, and drank fluids.

He had some trouble walking, like it was hurting him whilst he had the fever, but now has a rash on his trunk, and a tiny bit on his face. It is small, like tiny red pin pricks. The rash has only just appeared today, after the fever has gone.

Yesterday he had some pretty foul smelling poops, really soft, and seemed to have some stomach pain.

I did take him to the pedi on Friday, just to get him checked out, and he seemed kind of concerned about the joint pain, and ordered a series of bloodwork.

He did have an allergic reaction to penicillin in April, whic resulted in a fever ( 101 ish i think ) but had pretty bad joint pain, so much so that we could not touch his knees without him screaming. This is why the Dr. is concerned, that the joint pain is too much of a coincidence. IMO ( but I am not a med. professional, just mother of 3 ) I kind of feel that he is being overly cautious, which really is not like him, so that is why I am kind of concerned.

What do you guys think about his current symptoms?

Maybe strep?  My daughter had strep recently and had a rash on her trunk that was like tiny pin pricks. I'm pretty sure strep can also be accompanied by stomach upset.  It usually starts with a fever.

Either it's lyme disease and a viral infection. . .or I don't know. Probably the latter. Sorry

thanks for replies. I was actually thinking roseola, either that or lyme, but i am hoping not lyme.

He is totally ok now, not 100%, no appetite, ( which is highly unusual) but nursing loads and lots of fluids. No fever eithert, that high fever sucks, combined with a twitchy pedi, not fun. I get the blood work results next Monday. Fingers crossed.

Sounds like roseola to me.  DD had it a month or so ago and it followed a very similar pathway - miserable with a high fever for a few days, then the spots appeared and the fever went away.  The nurse had me check to see if the dots turn white when you push the skin (like you'd do with a sunburn).  Apparently they'll turn white with roseola.  If not, there's something more serious it could be.  If your LO's mood starts to improve as the fever disappears, it's probably just a virus and on its way out.

roseola

well, the rash is looking like it is getting a little worse. When I pushed on the rash, it stayed the same, no white.

His fever has gone, but.... he is pretty tired, and cranky, which is totally unlike him. I just want my busy, happy healthy baby back :( He never, ever cries, so I know he is feeling bad. He has no energy. He took 2, 3hr naps today, and is in bed again right now, for the night.

The CBC apparently looks normal, but the rest of the bloodwork, which are both for R. Arthiritis are due back tomorrow.

The rapid strep also came back negative.

High fever can cause joint pain (it does for me and I can barely walk). Is the joint pain still present?
I'd go with Roseola too.

I was going to vote for roseola, but the joint pain is throwing me. Did they test for parvo (fifth's disease)? That also causes fever, rash, and joint pain. I had it last winter (along with cytomegalovirus, so I may be getting them mixed up) and felt positively lousy, for several weeks to boot.

The cbc came back normal, white cells looked like he was fighting a virus, and his SED rate was als a little high, but not "bad" high, just like there was a virus.

We are waiting on the R. Arthiritis results.

The Pedi is concerned w/ the joint pain, and if it happens again, he wants to investigate further. He said that it was too much of a coincidence for him.

IMO, when you have a near 105 fever, you are not going to be walking around normally, a 1 yar old is going to want to be picked up, and generally must feel horrific. I kind of feel like he is being overly cautious, BUT... I am not an MD, by any stretch.

I do think it was Roseola, as does he.

I will talk to him about parvo, I did read a little about that when ds was sick.

He is doing much better now, still more tired than usual.
