Over the almost 4 years in a row I nursed B and/or K plus time I breastfed Ashleigh I have never had thrush. I've had a clogged duct a couple times and Mastitis a couple times too. This doesn't really feel like either of those things.
The past few days I've noticed my left breast gets very itchy. Not really my nipple, just one area on one side of the breast though it does "spread" a little. I thought it may have been something related to pregnancy, my breasts hurt on and off which is related to pregnancy. I also know from experience that dry skin can itch, especially shortly before stretch marks, so I've been trying to keep everything well hydrated, but it's only in one breast and it's only been the past few days so I really don't think it's pregnancy related.
Last night, after an intense itching session after breastfeeding I noticed where I scratched there was a raised, red rash and breast seemed shiny, the right breast was fine and not shiny. I looked up symptoms and Thrush came up. I don't see anything in Kadie's mouth and, like I said, I'm only having symptoms in one breast. Interestingly enough, the left breast seems OK now, even after nursing on it this morning, so it's coming and going.
Could this be thrush?
I'm currently nursing Kadie (she's 2) and 21 weeks pregnant. I am allergic to levaquin and sulfa drugs (antibiotics) and have no idea what options are available to me to treat this if it is thrush or even the very beginning of Mastitis. Something topical? Anyone know? I understand Diflucan can sometimes be used but generally not during pregnancy. I plan to call the InfantRisk Center to see if they have any information but wanted real-world information from you ladies too.
