6yo needs filling - freaked out!

My dd is 6 and has always hated the dentist - not sure why.  Anyway, we went today and she has two cavities that need filling.  Because she was quite uncooperative about having the cleaning and the x-ray, they want to sedate her with laughing gas.  This makes me nervous but at the same time, I don't think she will sit still enough for the procedure without it.    I need reassurance/suggestions. 

Also, I'm sure somone can give me some info on different types of fillings.   They suggested the silver kind but said I could do some kind of other coating if I prefer.  I am just starting my research on this stuff and would really appreciate links, info, and opinions/advice.  Thanks.

I am actually glad to hear that they want to give her nitrous rather than GA.  IMHO it is the lesser of the two evils.  That is the first time I have seen someone here write their DDS suggested that.  I would suggest rescue remedy instead of either. 

Glad to hear you are researching about amalgams (silver).  Here is a great website for that, may help in your decisions.

Also, do your research on composite fillings too.  A lot are made with plastics, estrogen, etc.  Your DDS should have an idea of what is in the materials they use (MSDS books). 

The mouth is such an invasive orifice and a lot of DDS' don't really understand why people are so freaked out by them being in their mouths.
