Induction or scheduled c-section before 39 weeks, anyone?

Hi!

I am a reporter and I am doing a story with NPR about the change in the the definition of a full-term pregnancy to 39 weeks from 37 weeks.  I really want to talk to a mom who was scheduled to be induced or had a scheduled c-section before 39 weeks - or who is planning/trying to  schedule one now.

This could have been with your previous children years ago, or just last week - but it should not have been for an emergency situation.  I just want to talk to a real person who has experienced this.

If you are willing to talk to me, please call me at 216-802-8464 or respond via email to gretchencuda@gmail.com.  I am happy to have an off-the-record conversation to explain what the story is all about, see if you are a good fit, and then if you are still interested we can proceed. There will be no mommy-bashing - the intent is a positive and informative story.

Thanks!

Hi Gretchen and welcome to Mothering. smile.gif

I'm going to move your post over to our I'm Pregnant forum where more of our pregnant members will read it.

Welcome to MDC!

Can you clarify your statement about full term changing from 37 to 39 weeks?  Is this a change only in reference to planned inductions and c-sections in otherwise healthy women?  Do you have a journal article or press release you can share?

I hope you're early in your research because no one has changed the definition of "full-term". It is still considered to be 37 - 42 weeks from LMP. Yes, now the recommendations are for repeat cesareans to be scheduled after 39 weeks rather than 37 - this is not the same thing as you are suggesting.
