The laid back breastfeeding.  Absolutely amazing..and completely solved all latch issues IMMEDIATELY.  I started having sore nipples, and with this baby being my second, I KNEW I needed to address it right away or it'd get worse. I called my friend who told me about the laid back breastfeeding style and this website...and my nipples stopped being sore immediately.  Just wanted to share!!!

Yay!  Really glad you've found this approach successful!

I recognise that it doesnt' solve *all* latching issues, but I am a BIG proponent of laid-back nursing.

Thanks for posting!

Yes!  Our local LLL leaders are pushing hard for the laid-back position, too.  I don't have any newbies, right now, but I do use this position with my 16 month old.  Glad it has helped you so much!

Totally!!

I have a forceful letdown and just a really heavy flow of milk in general, and this is one of the only positions DS can nurse in and not get frustrated choking and sputtering. Heavily recommend this!

Just an additional rec on this, though. We had a homebirth transfer and ended up with a c-section birth. When our LC first recommended this position to me it was really painful. DS was, obviously, lying on my abdomen, which was extremely sore from the surgery. I finally solved the problem by buying a post-partum support belt from Medela. I wear it every time we BF now and it really helps. So for C-section mamas who want to use this position, I recommend getting the belt. It will really ease the discomfort of a baby lying on your abdomen and near your incision.

I haven't done this myself, but at a drop-in lactation clinic last week, a woman came who had lots of pain nursing her 3 week old since birth. They had her lean way back on the couch and nurse her baby that way and she commented right away how much less painful it was, and she was sooooo relieved! She was in tears before trying that.
