How much to pump for one evening out (I BF on demand)?

So I am gonna be away from my 4 month old for the first time on Sat (my hubby has been nominated for an award so we are going to the awards ceremony). My mom will be watching our kids and I want to start pumping so I have a stash for her (I get very little when I pump). I haven't pumped since I did when my second baby was 3-4 months old and I had to go back to work and I can't remember a whole lot (I HATE pumping!). I BF my baby on demand so have no idea how much he'll need for an evening (we'll be gone probably 5 or 6 hours). What do you think? How much should I tell my mom to feed him at a time? Thanks!

Me, I'd leave 3 two-ounce stashes of milk, with instructions not to over feed!

Depending on your 4-month-old, I'd do exactly as mentioned above, except I'd leave 4  2-ouncers (in case your LO is a cluster night-feeder, or the outing runs over). The kellymom article gives wonderful instructions for bottle-feeding the breastfed baby; it is the same one I gave my MIL when she was watching DD a couple times a week for the few weeks that I had to return to work between months 3 -  4. I always ask that she slowly, horizontally feed 2-ounce bottles. DD cluster-feeds upon waking and before bed though, so I'd nurse her before leaving and she would eat a 2-ounce bottle shortly thereafter.

Have you tried to give him a bottle yet? You may want to give him just a very small amount from a bottle (either you or DH, probably in the middle of a nursing session) once before the outing so he knows what it is/how to do it and doesn't get stunned by "Where's my Mom" AND "What's this thing?" at the same time.

Thanks so much!!! I'll aim for 4 2-ounce bottles; I only get about an ounce from each breast and since I am pumping while BFing (I'm not working anymore) I am only pumping from one breast while nursing from the other... hopefully I'll pump enough in these next couple of days for Sat! My dh just told me it's gonna be a long evening, maybe even 5pm-12am.

No, I haven't tried giving a bottle yet... ugh it's so hard you know? Also it take so much for me to get an ounce of BM from the pump I don't want to "waste" it. I have a really good milk supply but for some reason the pump just doesn't work well on me- maybe it's a crappy pump? It's a medela, but over 5 years old.
