don't really know what to do. my 4 year old is so very prone to cavities. we don't do much sugar, we let her have juice water or milk for drinks, we brush, we've tried different toothpastes. 6 months ago at her last check she had 5 cavities, we go back tomorrow and upon inspecting her mouth she has at least 4 more. what can i do to change this trend? her dad had horrible teeth as a child so i'm guessing it is genetic. we're trying to avoid flouride if at all possible (this is a recent change after all the cavities had started so no slams on no flouride are necessary!)

Sometimes (often, usually?) teeth that are prone to cavities are that way because of a colonization of strep. mutans bacteria (which can be passed from person to person). Â My dentist just posted on facebook about new research that suggests 3 strains of strep. probiotic bacteria can inhibit the strep. mutans. Â
Â
I searched, and found a mint containing the 3 strains (at Walgreen's, of all places!)... we're going to try that and see what happens.
