What have you been eating, with morning sickness?

My morning sickness (all-day sickness) has been settling in.  All I have been eating or even want to eat is toast, saltines, ginger ale, and peppermint candies.  A ton of empty calories with no nutrition whatsoever! Fruit is certainly not my friend and every time I think about eating something solid, like dinner, it makes me sick.  I normally drink a ton of water but too much of that makes me ill, too.

It's crucial we eat good, so how in the world do we do that? LOL! Of course I'm craving things I can't have like tuna, lunchmeat, hot dogs, etc.

Are there any food ideas besides the one mentioned above that are good to eat during morning sickness and have great nutritious value?  What have you been eating?

ETA: I forgot to add Kozy Shack rice pudding.  I have been doing pretty good with that. Not sure how nutritious it really is to be eating all of the time though. It does say it's a good source of calcium though winky.gif

All I could eat when I had ms was fruit.  I'm sorry it's making you sick!

I could get oatmeal down, with sugar and raisins.  Had to taste like the way my grandma used to make it for me lol.  Can you eat a little peanut butter on your toast or crackers?  At least then you'd be getting a little protein.  Or maybe melt some cheese on your toast??  I don't know if you are vegetarian or not, but I had a friend who would just sip on chicken or soup broth for some protein.

I know I'm not much help!  But I hope you find something that works!

Just do what you can. Your body has stores of vitamins that will get you through until you are able to eat better.

Lunch meat and hot dogs are fine, as long as you heat them until they steam. Also, tuna is lower in mercury than most fish. The Mayo Clinic says 6 oz. a week is ok. (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/pregnancy-and-fish/PR00158)

I'm not really one to follow the food rules, though. I ate plenty of lunch meat, which I did not reheat, during my pregnancy so far. I'm comfortable with the risk, but I can totally understand that not everyone is. I also eat a lot of salmon because it's the only fish I really like. I only get wild-caught Pacific salmon, which is very low in mercury.

I recommend Real Food for Mother and Baby by Nina Planck for some great ideas on what to eat throughout pregnancy. I don't have much longer to go, but I think I might just read it again now! Hope your morning sickness passes soon. smile.gif

Your baby doesn't need much at all at this point... maybe 100 calories or so and it gets all the nutrients and vitamins from your stores.  If you were pretty healthy prior to pregnancy I would not worry at all.  Eat what you can eat, whatever that may be.  There are plenty of women with moderate to severe m/s that eat hardly anything for the first tri and sometimes even the entire pregnancy and end up with healthy babies.  I would try to get your prenatal vitamin down each day, though- try taking it just before bed.

Some ideas: acupuncture, sea bands, flavored water, fizzy drinks (even soda if that works), smelling lemons, fresh air, deep breaths, high protein foods (so that you can eat very little of them) like cheese cubes or spoonfuls of cottage cheese, anything that sounds good, eating small amounts frequently, sucking candy, comfort foods from your childhood, getting enough rest, walking (if that helps), and if it gets pretty bad 1/2 a Unisom tablet with vitamin B6 before bed (it's considered cat A now and it really takes the edge off).

Here's a thread from my DDC that you  might find helpful.  Have you joined your DDC yet?  When my m/s was really bad I spend an exorbitant amount of time on this forum to take my mind off the nausea and off the pain of nursing my LO.  It can really help emotionally to commiserate with others in the same boat at the same time.

Sorry you're feeling so yucky!  hug2.gif

Thanks for the tips guys! I am able to control it a little better now.  (Just hope it doesn't get worse.  I had severe MS with my first and it was just awful.) Surprisingly, I was able to eat scrambled eggs the other day.  I've been able to get some good foods down in between, but Saltines seem to be working pretty good right now and even Salt and Vinegar chips.

Jaimee -- I do have the sea bands and I have to say I do think they work a little bit.  I think the worst part is the terrible headache every day, all day, in conjunction with the nausea.

It's really ironic because I used to be a very healthy eater before getting pregnant, all organic/grassfed beef, good amount of protein, vegetables, and fruit, but now that I am pregnant I am craving all the crappy/unorganic/processed stuff, like the other day I wanted Steak -Ums and of course I had to satisfy my cravingssmile.gif.  It really stinks - LOL! I'm hoping when a few weeks pass, I can get back on my normal healthy eating routine.
