Explaining tattoos

How did you explain your tattoos to your toddler?

DD is 2.5 and all of a sudden she just became very very interested in my tattoos last night... I just told her they are something that not everyone has and that you can get if you want to when you are older. We were coloring and she began trying to tattoo herself with a crayon. She was VERY fascinated, as she was still talking about it this morning. I just hope she isn't at daycare right now trying to tattoo another child lol.

LOL. I tell my 8yo DS the same. It's something you can get when you are older if you decide to, and that it is a decision you must really be sure about. I will tell my DD the same when she is able to talk and is curious about it :)

I don't have tattoos but just thought I'd suggest temporary tattoos!! She might have a lot of fun with them right now (my DS LOVES them).

When my kids started asking about them, I just told them what they were - permanent illustrations on the skin applied with needles. We do temporary tattoos all the time.

Great idea! I can't believe I didn't even think of temporary tattoos...definitely getting her some this weekend!

I told my 2 y/o DD that they were pictures that Mommy had put into her skin forever. She loves to trace them and my 1 y/o DS loves to try to pick off the tattoo on my boob while he nurses (YOWWWW!)

I will do henna and temp tattoos if DD is more interested when she's older...
