Ongoing Congestion in 9mo?

Each of my kids has been allergic to cow dairy. My first two are allergic to cow dairy but can handle goat dairy and cow butter. My 9mo has been congested for months. 2 months ago I cut out hidden dairy, and 1? month ago I cut out goat dairy too. I have still been having some butter. His congestion has not gone away. If I am having some hidden dairy (like I did a week ago at a friends house) once a week, would that be enough to keep him congested? If I cut out butter, ALL hidden dairy, how long should it take before I see improvement? He's not super congested, just has this rattley sound. Not every time he breathes.

oops, he wakes...

Seems like you ought to see a pretty big difference after a week of no dairy at all, but it could be something else that's contributing to it as well. Personally I get all kinds of congested when I'm around wheat everyday even if it's for a very brief amount of time (as in the air in a restaurant or bakery), but after a week of steering clear of wheat altogether it has pretty much dissipated.

I see it has been a couple weeks since you posted this. How's it going?

i would try cutting out butter even before cutting hidden dairy. my dd reacts to butter the same as to cheese or milk. even if your other kids can eat it, your baby might not be able to. give at least two weeks for it to get out of the system. after that, i'd give at least a month with no symptoms before having occasional dairy. i cut out all dairy and after 4 months now if i have an occasional food with hidden dairy it is ok, but dd's system needed a total rest first.

have you tested for other allergies? other foods? food allergies often travel in packs. mold or mildew hidden in the house? mold is pretty common in the spring, and can cause wicked congestion without causing a lot of the other normal allergy symptoms. mold is notorious for persistent cough/chest congestion.

i hope you figure it out and your lo starts breathing easier.
