daily tummy aches

DD has been having tummy aches on a daily basis now for several years and we still haven't pinned down the cause.

So far, milk allergy tests at age 3 was negative (we'd not give her milk till then though after a couple of introductions at a year suggested she didn't tolerate it)

Put on lactulose for constipation. We were never convinced that she was but after she started the meds she started eating more and putting on weight. Did not complain of tummy aches for a while.

Recently she's been complaining more and also had permanent teeth come through very discoloured. Celiac screen was negative, iron, calcium, vitamin D and thyroid all came back normal.

I've kept a food diary and can't spot any patterns, nor does it seem to be trying to get out of school or anything. She has pretty much the same number of tummy aches at weekends and during things she wants to do. They don't seem to slow her down for long, she'll be pretty quite for 15 minutes or so but then back to running round.

I've been holding off an elimination diet till we got the test results back but I think that's probably the next step.

Any other suggestions for what could be causing this?

I don't have any answers but that sounds exactly like my DD, age 6. We took her completely off dairy which seems to have helped a little but she still has them. I started her on a probiotic formula which has given her very loose stools but has also eliminated the stomach aches, at least for the past few days. So I suspect its related to bowel, but she has always been regular, no straining, with normal poops and the x-ray showed no constipation.

My DD is also 6, in fact nearly 7. Glad to hear the probiotics seem to be helping your DD. That's actually something I haven't tried yet and probably should.

My DD had the same issue but she also had diarrhea and she vomited a few times every week. She tested negative for Celiac but positive for dairy, wheat, gluten, rye, etc on her ELISA IGG allergy panel. After taking out all of those foods she was symptom free within 3 days.
