Hailstorm killed my garden. Pictures. - Page 2

I'm glad some of your stuff survived!

What kind of greenhouse do you have? Sounds like a hoophouse or seven would be awesome for you...

It's actually a big commercial-type greenhouse.  We got the steel hoops used, and the UV-resistant poly from a guy who does big greenhouse projects, so it was just the leftovers from a big project.  It was expensive (especially the hoops), but we should be able to use the hoops forever, and the poly shouldn't need replacing too often.  It's 20 feet wide by 36? or maybe 40 feet long.  We have a few more hoops, but we wanted it to be in the current garden area, where the soil is good and the quack grass is gone, and that's what would fit.  And my husband worked when he was 17 replacing the poly on commercial greenhouses for a summer, so he's good at it, and taught me how to do a good job of it.

I looked more carefully yesterday while I was watering, and there are some scars on the poly from the hail, but no punctures.  This is our first year with a greenhouse, so I'm still learning what works and what doesn't.  We don't have any fans in there, just big windows and a big door, so I hope that works out . . . we'll see!
