After a week and a half of visits, today our daughter was officially placed with us! :) It was sad, pulling away from her foster families house. We are lucky, she's been with them the whole time she's been in care, almost 7 months. She just turned 2 and we are absolutely smitten. Now, to find a way to keep everyone from fighting over who gets to do what for her...

I hope things are still going well. Will you stay in contact with her foster family? We do with DS's first foster family and it's been a wonderful thing. His big sister was not (before she was adopted) and it really messed up her life. Thank goodness her adoptive family recognizes the importance of early relationships.

Absolutely. After the foster fam gets back from a 2 week vacation they are coming for a visit, and we plan to keep in touch and see each other once in a while. They live a few hours from here.
Â
We are very blessed, our daughter has an older brother (teen) that she will see in a supervised setting a few times a year, and sisters that are almost 4 that have been placed with another Catholic homeschooling family that live not too far from us. We've all ready contacted them by phone and we intend to get together regularly. :) It turns out that they have 3 teens in the house and 2 grown children, we have 2 teens in the house and a 7 1/2 year old. We have a LOT in common, including no tv! It's really wonderful.

She has a lot of people who care about her. :)
Â
She had a hard time last night at bedtime, got really quiet and sad but wanted me to pick her up and we just held on to each other for a while, then I rocked her to sleep. I am so in love with her.
Terrific. DS's sister was two when she went into foster care and with a family for a bit over a year when she had to be moved (out of county.) The second foster family cut off all contact with everyone A. knew and she's still recovering from that. We now see her about once a year (they moved up north) and talk more often. DS's younger sister lives about 15 minutes from here and we see her a lot. It's been wonderful for everyone.
Â
I hope your daughter's transition continues to be relatively smooth. DS came home when he was about 2 1/4 (after being in two previous homes) and had an amazingly smooth transition. That worried me for a while but was never a problem.

I am so thankful she wants me to comfort her when she's sad. I know that means she has a good attachment with her foster mom and that will make it more likely that we will have a good attachment. I know she misses her foster brother a lot, he's a month older than her and she talks about him all the time. I have a picture of the foster parents, her and her foster brother in a frame on her dresser and we've been kissing them goodnight.
Â
I know it will worry me if she doesn't have a harder time, and it will worry me if she does have a harder time! lol
Â
Thank you for posting. I lurked here for a long time before we decided we definitely were adopting and I have appreciated everything you've shared!
