How much did your medical records cost?

I've put off getting my medical records for my c-section because I didn't want to ...well, tick off my doctors. But I am just really curious! And the day is approaching! I am scheduled for a RCS at the end of July in my 40th week, but if I go inot labor before then, I will try for a VBAC.

I've never been able to make up mind which one I really want and I am wondering if the records will help. I'm afraid there won't be anything new there and I'll just potentially anger my OB's for nothing, but I finally made the call! The lady that took my call wasn't sure how much it would cost yet, though.

How much did it cost you? It seems it might be just 60 cents a page, which isn't bad...but are we talking about hundereds of pages?

Thanks!

I didn't pay anything for mine, but I was "transferring care" so they were free.  You should find out if there is a way to get them free.  I had 80 pages of records from DS's pregnancy and birth.  Those were just mine...  He probably had about as many which had some good info that helped me as well.

I had around 80 pages because I had a complicated first pregnancy. My records were around $60. I don't remember what the breakdown of cost was.

Mine would have been $25, but I'm just going to let my midwives order them for me because they can get them free since they are my CPs

I requested ALL records for my hospital stay AND my baby's records. (so no pregnancy records) and it was a nice thick ream. I didn't pay a cent.. not even shipping. Not sure how I lucked out there because I so often hear about people having to pay an arm and a leg. The most relevant part re VBACing is the operative report. You could probably just show up to your OB's office with ID ready and request a copy from the front desk? At my 2 week pp visit the OB was reading over something referring back to it while I was asking questions, and I was like, hey, can I have a copy of that? And he got me a copy right there. He was a jerk, too, so its not like I just had a nice OB! lol. I got the rest of my records later.

I requested mine and my son's medical records from the hospital. I didn't have to pay anything for them, even though it's at least a hundred pages and cost $13 to mail. Since it came from the hospital medical records department. I doubt that the OB or my midwives even knew I got them. I didn't get my pregnancy records, though, which would have come from my midwives' office.

As LilStar said, your operative report is very important for a VBAC. That is the only way I learned about a severe laceration to my cervix. It doesn't risk me out of a VBAC or homebirth, but it is a very good thing for me and my midwife to know and prepare for.

I didn't pay for mine, either.  I was somewhat surprised, but they didn't ask for a cent.

ETA:  Whoops, I didn't have a VBAC.  I saw this on the front page and didn't pay attention to where it was posted.

I just got mine (not baby's) and it was about $45. I agree op report is most impt but I also liked seeing the nurses notes from my marathon labor. It was amazing how much of it was wrong/off...
