Planning a move, and looking for some insight

Hey mamas!  We're looking to move as my dh has a telecommuting job that will require us to live withing about 2-3 hours of DC.  I was hoping for some good recommendations on finding a good community.  So, here's what we're looking for... somewhere fairly rural (we don't want to live in the city/suburbs at all!) where we can have land for homesteading, a nice crunchy community, and opportunities/groups for secular homeschoolers (bonus points for unschoolers!).  I know sometimes the latter two can be harder to find in more rural areas, but I'm hoping it exists out there somewhere. :)  Thanks so much for your help!

2-3 hours is a good distance, you will find lots of areas! I would put in a vote for Carroll county, there is lots of lands and farms, and I know there are a few homeschool groups.
