Seizures in 7 yr old-Drs can't figure it out

Thread Starter

Our neighbors DD just turned 7 this month.  For the past few months, she has been having seizures in the middle of the night.  It has happened about 4-5 times in 4 months or so maybe.  I don't know all the details but they have been to several Drs., specialists etc with no answers.  A pretty decent hospital did an overnight sleep study on her & monitored brain activity etc & can't find anything.

I thought I would see if anyone here had any thoughts, experiences, feedback etc.

Neither of my children are epileptic, but I have a family members with epilepsy.

The sleep study wouldn't have found anything if the kid didn't have a seizure that night.

Most people with seizures are pretty normal when they aren't having seizures.  Typically, either there is a cause that can be made obvious with testing or examination of the patient history, like a brain injury or a tumor or fever in a small child, or recurrent seizures are considered a sign of epilepsy.  Is this child on any medication?  Is she still having seizures despite medication?

Also, are they certain these are seizures, and not some sort of other sleep disturbance?  It might take longer term monitoring to sort that out.  I'm not sure if there are event monitors for seizures/brain activity, but it would probably be a good thing for the girl's parents to look in to.

I was having seizures for about a year time which started when i was 25. I am 26 now and they have stopped. Of course i had a lot of symptoms that preceeded the seizures, and went to a million doctors and they could not find out what was wrong. Finally i went to a wholistic doctor who was awesome. he ran tests that no other doctors even thought of. general practitioners cannot run the tests he did because they were so specific. I was gluten intolerant, and also had a problem with one of my genes that helped control stress. My body was collecting toxins and could not get rid of them, and also the gluten was like putting poison in my body. It caused inflamation, especially in my brain which was causing the seizures. I went on like 8 supplements that he gave me (like things to help my body process stress, fish oil, SAM-e, etc.) and they went away. Other causes of seizures could be a brain tumor so an MRI would be good to get. Of course there are other reasons but i thought i would let you know about mine since it is more common than people think, and most doctors dont diagnose it because they miss it. I hope this helps and I hope everything gets better!
