Would you go to ER for this?

On Wednesday my dd (3.5) got burned by some tea she took out of the microwave. I took her to the Dr. all they said was she's fine put neosporen on the blisters. That is what I've been doing and the blisters look like they're healing well but today (we just woke up after serious sleeping in) she has several new small blisters around her mouth. I am not sure if these are from the burn or if there cold sores, but if they are cold sores I really don't want it to spread to where the burn blisters are. Her Dr. will not prescribe anything for coldsores. That and they are closed today. There is an urgent care about a half mile from my house but they don't take our insurance! So I really want to take her to the ER but at the same time I don't want to be misusing our insurance... Please help me decide what to do. If I don't hear from anyone we'll probably just leave in an hour!

I probably wouldn't - unless she seems to be in pain.  I'm guessing the ER is open 24/7 so you can always take her later in the evening.

well i took her to urgent care after being on the phone with her doctor all morning they finally gave her a referral to the urgent care. the dr there said it's good i brought her in because she has imptego instead of a cold sore. hopefully the abx will keep it from spreading to the rest of her face! I can't believe her pediatrician said to just use neosporin, accord to the dr at urgent care that should never be used on burn... it's amazing how much Dr's disagree on things...  I am also glad I didn't have to take her to the ER afterall

Glad you got her correctly diagnosed. It seems like those things always pop up when the doctor's office is closed!

Re: Neosporin on burns... Never put anything oil-based (including butter, which used to be a popular home remedy) on a burn. Between that and the fact that your doctor doesn't have an answering service/on call doc so you always have access to them, I'd be looking for a new practice.
