I did the same thing.  As dd2 slowed down her nursing, I gained a bit.  Then when she weaned entirely, I gained a BUNCH.  I have found that it helps to just eat a very small amount at each meal.  The amount I ate when nursing is so much more than I need now.  I think I underestimated the amount of calories that went to breastmilk. 

 

I am not making a ton of progress, but I feel better when I cut portions and don't eat junk food (duh).  I am also walking a couple days a week, doing some yoga, and have started lifting heavy weights again.
