Just potty trained and starting school soon

DD is 4 + and is starting pre-k in September. After much work dd has become potty trained. Up until recently we had pooping in the undie. It's been a month since I have created a routine for her so that she doesn't have the accidents. So, since she has a set time she goes and things have been pretty much smooth since.

She goes to the bathroom right after breakfast. When she starts pre-k she will be getting up much earlier and will be back around the time that she goes to the bathroom right now. I am a little worried that she might have the urge earlier since she'll be waking up earlier and it may cause her to have accidents in the school because it's all going to be new and she has struggled with constipation. Also, as of yet she doesn't know how to wipe her poop. And my next question is when do your full-time school kids go potty?

Thanks.

Talk to the school. Some Pre-K programs are licensed as schools and offer less help in the bathroom. Some are licensed as daycares and can offer a lot of help. It would be helpful to know going in what they offer and how she can get help. If they can help, you can list off all the people who can help her (You can say "Maria Maria I need help on the toilet" or" Excuse me, I need to go to the potty now!" and then leave whatever you are doing.)

At our preschool, I've asked them to remind him (actually, tell him) to go potty at a specific point in the morning. Not because he has accidents but because he has a huge bladder and won't want to stop what he is doing. If he is told to go, he hopes up. There is also a specific time in the morning when the potty learning kids are herded to the bathroom, but only at the parent's request.

Thanks for this info. I had assumed the schools are 'schools' or as you said 'licensed as schools' and won't be helping with the bathroom part.

The schools here are not allowed to help wth bathroom stuff.  In my experience(and the same with all of my nieces/nephews) they all wait until they get home to poop.  Even when they usually go during the midmorning they would still go to school and not go until they got home.

It really depends on the school. If it is part of a public school or something it is probably licensed as a school. If it is part of a preschool, they can be at any stage.. Our preschool just started a developmental kindergarten program (delays kindergarten one year, not a replacement) and one of many reasons parents choose is it for those kids who have potty learning delays.

Thanks. I thought so - that normally kids would be waiting to get back home. But in full time school that's a long wait.

Yes, this is a public school. But, they did ask in the registration form and we told them the problem. She's certainly a lot better since. I'll just have to start asking her to use the bathroom at school if she has to and hope she will.

I've been a Pre-K teacher and have a child in Pre-K. I've never seen a Pre-K teacher not be willing to help a child when needed.
