we are renting a house

the landlord is the sweetest guy but he goes through an agency who is absolutely hellish

today i get a call out of the blue from a window install company explaining to me that the owner wants to put in new windows and they are coming TOMORROW to measure, as if I have no say in this

just venting a little

but i am assuming the downside is at least 2 days of workers, mess, removing window coverings, furniture from all windows etc

then there is the off gassing issue

plus side is new pretty windows and maybe some energy cost savings, but according to my research that's not much ?

i am a sahm with a toddler and baby, we are home all day and have no family in the area to go stay with we also have 3 dogs

any experience or advice would be so so helpful

old windows are metal, probably 30 yes old, mold/rust builds around the edges but nothing major just normal wear. He just wants to update and probably do something nice for us, but to me its just a hassle and we are fine with metal old windows.

I would probably leap at the chance to take the new windows if it were me.

We have newer windows on the main floor of our home and much older windows upstairs. There is a noticeable difference in noise, weather tightness, ease of opening and closing and ease of cleaning between the old windows and the newer ones.

If the hassle is more annoying to you than any possible improvement maybe you can discuss it with your landlord. If he still wants to do it I think he can even if you don't want it because he owns the place. Are you or your kids particularly chemically sensitive? Maybe you could contact the local renter's association and see what they advise.
