Colostrum storage...

I'm 26 weeks pregnant and am leaking colostrum like crazy. I may as well start saving some, I've gotten the ok from my midwife to start hand expressing..but the milk storage bags are huge! I don't want to fill those and have to defrost those entire bags in one shot, since it might get wasted that way.

I saw somewhere once someone posted little tubes that seal, specifically for colostrum. Does anyone know where to get these? I thought about syringes...but then they don't seal very well. (I'm picturing a really messy ziplock bag full of leaky syringes.)

I didn't pump while pg (though I was nursing during my pg) but I had pitting edema after I had dd 2 on my breasts and had to pump to pull my nipple out to latch her on. I would end up with 2 oz of colostrum/early milk ( I don'[t know what it was, very yellow and she was 2 days old when it all started) anywho the moral of my story is unless you will need that milk in the early days babe may not take it when you go to use it. DD2 refused to drink any of the early pumpings when I went back to work at 6wks (prn). We even tried mixing it with freshly pumped milk.

Onto your question. : )  Even if you only put a oz (or what ever amount you choose) into the bag push all the air out and freeze flat. They will defrost in warm water much quicker. Yeah I guess it is wasting bags but I have not heard of the tubes you are refering to. Have you tried amazon?

Good luck on your pg!

Medela sells a pack of 12 tubes and lids. Each holds 2.5 oz. I bought mine at Target, I think. Would that be too big?
