Biting and the older baby

My baby - 11 months old - just got his first teeth last month. In the last few days he's starting kind of biting me when latching on. It makes me jump and scream, but it doesn't seem to phase him. With my dd it was enough to just put her down if she started biting. She quickly learned that there would be no nursing if she bit me. But he's not responding the same way. Any ideas???

Ouch.

OK, since I am pregnant with my first I obviously haven't breastfed yet so feel free to disregard anything I say orngbiggrin.gif. That being said, one of the tips I've read and heard about for biting during breastfeeding is that when the baby bites down, instead of pulling away you just gently press the baby's face further into your breast, meaning that baby will have to stop biting and open his or her mouth to breathe. Eventually, baby associates biting with being uncomfortable, and stops doing it. I'm sure you'll get lots of better advice from other moms, but I just thought I'd share since the tip sounded logical and pretty simple to me...might be worth a try anyway!

Yeah, I know and have tried using that tip a few times, but he just smiles while biting! He thinks my yelping is funny.
