I use regular yellow onions all the time. I had a great harvest of over-wintered garlic and shallots this spring, and I have room in that bed for onions. I'd like to plant them this fall, and I'm considering potato onions.

Does anyone here have experience with these guys? Are they good in place of yellow onions? I'd really like to get at least a summer's worth of onions out of a crop, since all my other cooking is supplied by the garden. What other varieties do you guys like? I admit I'd like to grow big bulbs, but I'd be happy with a LOT of smaller ones.Â
