My newborn daughter has developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). The treatment is a harness called a Pavlik harness that she will wear all the time for a few months, which pulls her legs up and to the sides. Most of the carriers that crunchy moms seem to favor involve froggying the newborn's legs. I have not wanted a SSC because I tend to shoulder tightness and those seemed like they would aggravate it. I have a SnuggiBaby and we tried to put her in, but after trying it I'm not sure it will have her legs in a good position, and she fussed and kept fussing--and so far, typically when we change her position, she does fuss at first but zonks right out after getting used to the new position, so I don't think she was comfortable. I'm kind of eyeing the carriers where the baby's legs hang out. I know the Baby Bjorn and their ilk get a lot of hate on these boards and for some good reasons, but I wonder if maybe something like that might be the best solution at this time? I'm really just looking for something to use for 2 or 3 months until she is out of the harness, at which point assuming all goes well I'll be able to switch to the SnuggiBaby or some other carrier. I'm probably going to check with the orthopods before I do anything but I'd like to gather some ideas first. Anyone BTDT? Any suggestions?

I don't have answers for you, but know a couple people you can try contacting for help. I would try Susan at The Blueberry Tree (formerly Sweet Pickles). She is a certified instructor and may be able to provide some answers.
Â
You can also try Becca from Close at Hand Babywearing Service. She is also certified, and I believe she can do consultations via phone or Skype.Â

Both ladies are wonderful to work with, and please mention that I sent you if you contact one of them so they know where the referral came from. Best of luck in finding a safe way to wear your wee one while she is in the harness.
