Stainless Steel Food Dehydrators

I am considering getting a food dehydrator. I do not want a plastic one that will blow BPA onto my food. I am trying to find a comparison of the stainless steel dehydrators. Anyone have any experience? Also, anyone know if chrome plated shelves have any health problems? The ones with stainless steel shelves seem to be a lot more expensive.

Any good ideas for stuff to dehydrate? I'm thinking I'd like to make almond crackers, maybe raisins, apple slices.

Thanks.

I registered for a really nice stainless one for my wedding, and so far that one looks the best out of every one I have ever found (my sister had a plastic one back int he 90's and it was atrocious and made the food taste like it was in a plastic bag for months, ick!)

I think the stainless is the way to go, and Bed Bath and Beyond has one that's very reasonably priced; it's under $100, or I wouldn't have registered for it.

Som great vegan options for dehydrating I want to try are marinated tofu strips to make a vegan "jerky" bananas make excellent banana chips, Pineapple slices sound fun, but I'm not sure on how to dehydrate them without dousing them in sugar :(

Hope this helps :)

Just looked at bed, bath, and beyond and I only see plastic. Do you have a link to the stainless one? That price sounds so good I fear it was a special purchase or something.

there's the link to the one we registered for, it's a "Nesco® American Harvest® Snackmaster® Encore™ Dehydrator and Jerky Maker"

it looked stainless steel, but from the looks of the image it seems like it's not the product description doesn't say if it's stainless either.... I don't think we would have registered for it if it wasn't stainless, as that is our new look we're going for in our kitchen (I hate non-stick)
