I am bored, waiting for hubby and the big girls to get home. He is fixing a friend's brakes to fund the camera lens I wanted for my birthday present. :D I usually do nothing for my birthday, and so this was a nice surprise on his part. But the little one is napping and I'm going nuts. Waiting for diapers to finish washing and then for them to get home. I want to get Auntie Anne's if we have enough...yum!

Jaimee, we always have huge family drama around the holidays too.  One year I even said NO family is coming for Christmas, nor will we be visiting anyone from November-January.  It didn't go over well, but it was the nicest holiday season I've had since getting married!

Whewwwie. July has been so busy for me thus far. :( My parents were here for over a week, and my other sister came down for a few days which was really nice, but also hectic and busy, busy, BUSY. I also somehow ended up with a sinus infection yesterday, so today has been miserable. I can't stop blowing my nose and I tried netty potting, but I don't like that sensation. :( 

Dennie - How's the chicken pox going? Your puppy is PRECIOUS. :( I want a little teeny tiny puppy. :(

Jaimee - I'm so envious of your beach trip :( And sympathetic about your family drama. :(

Only another pregnant woman could understand this-

There is a smell in my living room.  Nobody can smell it but me.  I have cleaned everything and it hasnt gone away.  I even bleached my floors! 

...I cant even go in there.  Its making me sick.

Ash, I feel ya. lol I can smell a BBQ from a mile away. The other day, I smelled BBQ, got to the stop light 12 blocks away and sure enough! lol Luckily, there's no bad odor here. One day I smelled something that no one else could and it ended up being my breath. LOL

For some reason, I smell rotten eggs when I use our shower. DH says he doesn't smell it and it's not a strong odor of rotten eggs, but I certainly smell it. Also? I can walk into a room a good half hour after DH has farted in there and still smell it.

Isn't it IRRITATING?  The smell has lessened today- but my husband, kids, and cousins were all in the living room and didn't smell a thing! 

Mallory- do you have a well or city water?  Sometimes when you have a well, the smell of rotten eggs comes up for some reason....a mineral needing to be added or something...I dont remember, but it happened to us once.

We don't have well water, but DH recently messed with the drain in the shower. It had been leaking underneath the shower floor and he fixed it, I've smelled it ever since. I'm the only one in the house that smells it though.

Oh my gosh YES.  We had a clog in the shower drain, only our washing machine ran to the same spot and I had been washing cloth diapers.  The contractor who helped us fix it said to just let all the water soak into the dirt in the crawl space, but um, yeah, my pregnant nose was miserable for like a month!

I smell smoke awful now. DH walked past a smoker on his way into the doctor's office yesterday and he just REEKED of cigarettes to me (it's a main asthma trigger for me). He is pretty sensitive to it, too, but couldn't smell any smoke. He's got his mom's truck these next couple days and the woman smokes like a freight train (her windows are brown in her truck, we tried windex once and it dripped brown and it was STILL hard to see out the windshield!)...I'm making him come straight in, put his clothes IN the washer, and take a shower before doing anything else tonight!

Are there any vegans/raw diet folks here? For the past 2 weeks I am dealing with really bad intestinal upset and stomach cramps (not from the HG) whenever I eat any processed foods, meats, etc. DH and I just watched a documentary talking about juice fasts. Obviously, I'm not fasting. That wouldn't be smart. But I do need to change my diet, being sick all the time isn't smart either! I'm adding in more fresh juices, and cutting out processed foods and meat to see if it makes a difference. I'm about to head into the kitchen to make a huge batch of veggie burgers to have on hand. I just made my first juice with spinach, apples, and pears, and even DH (who hates all green foods and veggies) liked it! Just wondering if anyone else out there is trying to do a plant based, mostly raw (not doing entirely raw, but I do find raw easier with the exception of beans and grains) diet. If there are, any links would be appreciated!

DD1's sixth birthday is Saturday. Yikes. We had to change from having it at the park to here since heat index is going to be around 110 again! This way kids can escape into the indoors (and so can I). So tomorrow I'm going to be in a cleaning frenzy! My mom and (maybe, he just had surgery) her husband, my dad and grandma, 3 friends and their kiddos, and my pregnant best friend (if she's not in labor!) will all be here. So the bathroom, couch, and girls' rooms all need cleaned. Again I say, yikes!

I have to go to work tomorrow? Does that count as "big plans"... I'm thrilled, let me tell you.  DP has been working 9 - 8:30 PM and going to his second job 9:30 - 3:00 AM and tomorrow he only has to do the second job thing... So it sucks that I have to spend my day at work when he doesn't.  BUT, my city has a huge consignment sale for kids twice a year and it started yesterday and runs through Sunday... and Sunday is 50 % off day and there's ALWAYS so much baby stuff left on the last day, so I need to go through everything we have so far for DS and decide what else I need so that I can try to find it there and buy it used and 50 percent off! Woo-hoo! So that's my project today. 

Dennie - good thinking on avoiding the 110 heat index! it finally cooled down here so we're below 95!! but i can't even be outside for more than a couple minutes during the day or i break out sweating... hah, no thanks. :) but enjoy your family and friends company! how far along is your best friend?

Meb2- she is due the 25th (a week after my birthday, 4 days after her's, and on my cousin's birthday...July is busy around here!). It's her first, so I'm sure she'll be just fine.

Dennie, I'm not vegan or raw, but I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian and have been for 13 years now.  We focus on fresh, organic, local and cook most our meals.  Every now and then I get into food frenzies where I sprout beans, bake bread and make yogurt.  I also garden and try to supply all our green produce and tomatoes from that during the summer (except this year since we're moving).  I would recommend not aiming for any one type of diet (raw, juices, vegan, etc.) but go for fresh/organic and balanced.  Maybe add in more veggies/fruits, but also think about local grass fed meats (unless you want to go vegetarian), sprouting your grains, and getting doses of fermented foods each day.   Probiotics in yogurt and other digestive enzymes in fermented foods (e.g. sauerkraut) could really boost your digestive tract.  Take a look at the cookbook Nourishing Traditions for great tips on how to get going (I found it at the library).

I'm going to pick up all my baby girl stuff today.  Its very lightly used things from my SIL, who is due any day but having a boy instead of the girl they thought they were going to have.  Problem is, our remodel isnt done and we still only have 2 bedrooms.  Not to mention we intended on buying this house and found out last week that my Dad loses this property in his divorce.  Im facing the prospect of moving right before this baby is born...and Im not happy about it.  Ive lived here for years, remodeled every room...made this house completely my own, out of my own pocket. And now its not mine at all :(

I dont know where all this baby stuff is going to go.

Dennie: I'm vegan AND have a wheat intolerance.  I focus on mostly raw, organic food.  I was 100% raw before getting pregnant, and first-trimester cravings/food aversions derailed me for a bit.  But now that I'm feeling more like myself again I'm focusing mainly on raw and feeling awesome.

Let me know if you want to discuss techniques/recipes, etc!

Thanks for the insight, ladies! I am not focusing on a particular type of diet, per se, but a major overhaul was needed anyway. I can't bring myself to eat eggs right now unless we happen to have the money to splurge on some from someone keeping them locally. After having our own chickens for a year (and eating a fried egg everyday at the beginning of this pregnancy!), I got spoiled on free range eggs from happy hens! With the risk of flooding, our hopes for chickens are out this year. I can't wait to use this winter/spring to build a new coop and get more next year. And red meat is one of the things that has been upsetting my stomach most, so I'm taking a break and will ease it back in.

Tonight hubby and the girls are having homemade fries and steaks. I am having a giant bowl of brown rice with tomatoes, sliced green pepper, corn, and black beans. Maybe a little bit of cheese. Filling, healthy, and yummy! I can't wait for our own tomatoes to hurry up and ripen! I'm also making spinach, apple, and beet juice.

I'm so sorry about the house. That is terrible, and I hate to see you lose what you've put everything into. . 

We are also facing the "where do I put all of this!?!" problem... We have a four bedroom house, but we share it with my sister and her children who take up two of the rooms, and because of the high volume of craft stuff that my sister and I have, we have a craft room that is FILLED, and would take A LOT of purging of things that we will still likely use in the future in order to be able to use it as baby's room... And since we're planning on having the baby in our room full time, at least i the very beginning, there's no point in having a "baby's room"... Mostly it's just stuff like clothes and other stuff that are essential that I've been collecting so far that is posing a problem.... Hmm... It'll all work itself out in the end though...

We were pre-approved last night, so we are officially house hunting.  If I could detach my fully renovated 50's diner style kitchen and take it with me, I probably wouldnt be so sad!

Meb- I have a crafting problem also...its ALL over my kitchen right now.  Eventually, all the stuff will find its place.  Who needs a nursery anyways?
