science and history online/dvd lectures

Hello all. Am looking for resources on history and on science, some kind of structured lectures. What I want is something a bit longer than brainpop (ie more than about 5 minutes) and a bit lower level than khan academy. Ideally I'd like world history. Any thoughts? Primarily for my 7 year old.

I specifically want something online that can be watched not, say, books to work through, as this is for the last half hour/hour of the homeschooling day when everyone is a bit tired.

Note we are in the uk so any dvds might not work unless they are released here too.

have you tried whatknow. it lists youtubes that have been screened and rated by other people so the accuracy of the content is usually ok.

do you have discovery streaming in the uk?

history channel online (history.com), Biography channel online (biography.com), etc. all have video clips (ranging between 30 seconds and 30 minutes) that are searchable by topic. They're not lectures, but usually parts of their TV programming. We've found these two channels to be a great way to incorporate some multimedia into our history.
