Recommendations for hand-washing CD routine?

First kiddo on the way shortly, we have a nice stash of prefolds, some one size diapers of Bum Genius, Happy Heinys, Fuzzi Bunz, Swaddlebees - a little bit of everything to get started - and some covers.

We don't have a washing machine or dryer - Any advice on a washing routine or process for hand washing diapers?

We also don't have access to special soaps but I will have 1 stash of Charlie's soap brought from home to start :) and we have Tide Original powder.

There is a video online for washing flats in a 5 gallon bucket and a plunger.

I washed mine in the tub.  Spread them out over the bottom, soak them with sudsy water and swish, swish, swish.  I would scrub at really messy ones. Me and the kids would walk through the tub and swish with our feet, and the same for rinsing a few times, then I would run each one under clean water, wring and hang.  Washed every morning or every other at the latest. Had to use just prefolds and flats.  Washed dipes seperate from covers.  I used dawn but you gotta rinse like the dickens with that! LOL!

When my LO was a newbie I'd wash them out right away usually.

Do you not have access to ANY washing machine?  Before I owned one I took 'em to the laundromat.  Good God I can't imagine washing them by hand, but if I had to, I'd use castille soap and rinse really, really well, dry them always in the good sun {this I did often, clothesline of sunshine}.

Not sure about your budget or your purchase options but if the hand washing doesn't work out, small portable washing machines that hook up to the faucet work really well. We had one for awhile in an apartment. We line dried everything. They aren't very expensive.

No washing machine or dryer... I guess I was mostly curious about a soaking system... you know like a routine.... We are used to washing by hand it's just how to avoid stains and smells if we can't scrub every single day. Soak stuff in something? I've heard vinegar?

Can you get some bakout by biokleen? I've heard rave reviews about that. Also the sun takes out stains really well. I wouldn't soak in vinegar every time it might be too harsh. I think I recall that Cottonbabies has info on a wetpail method for storing diapers prior to washing.
