Seattle: where are you getting eggs?

I'm always in search of the perfect eggs my parents get in Salem, Oregon. I've been getting some from a guy in Puyallup and I'm in North Seattle. The conditions are good but I'd like better - chickens roaming around on grass all day, not just a large outdoor space with dirt. I'm willing to drive up to 45 min to buy 8-9 doz a month and do NOT want to pay farmer's market prices. I currently pay $3 a doz and would pay up to $4 or so.

Have you tried Craigslist?  I've seen many ads for free-range eggs there.

I think you'll have a hard time finding eggs from hens fed certified organic feed for those prices - feed prices are through the roof right now - organic chicken feed is about $.50/#.  Local farmers where I am are selling eggs for $5-7 per dozen.  You'll need to drive far, far away from Seattle to buy "cheap" eggs, or get lucky!

We're fortunate to have our own chickens!

Good luck with your search.

Yes, I've checked craigslist every couple months since the winter.  Many are not truly pastured, though one lead the other night might work out for this fall when some hens are ready. That's also how I found our current supplier.

Most I've seen don't charge that much unless they're selling them in the store or farmer's market.
