Antibiotics and Intolerances?

Has anyone else experienced this?

Background:  I'm post-op gastric bypass and have had my gallbladder removed, and I have found through agonizing trial and error that my BF kids have intolerant to all sorts of proteins in my diet (eggs, soy, & dairy are main ones) unless I supplement myself and my kids with high quality digestive enzyme blends like protease, amalyayse, etc.... and probiotics.

DS is sensitive to something I'm eating, but it's not an immediate reaction and I'm having a hard time figuring out what.  Usually, as long as I maintain things and take my enzymes and probiotics, we can keep symptoms to a real minimum so I don't worry about it too much.

DS is 16 mo old and eats a lot of solids- inc. dairy (which doesn't seem to bother him) and eggs and soy as an ingredient but not on their own like scrambled eggs or as tofu. All seemed copacetic until DS was put on a course of ridiculously strong antibiotics after a stubborn ear infection.  The antibiotics really knocked his digestive system out of kilter -- he had very loose stools for a week and developed a yeast-overgrowth rash on his diaper area. I experienced the yeast overgrowth in my breasts - THRUSH!  It was a miserable time for both of us.

So.... now that we're done with the antibiotics and yeast overgrowth is under control (meaning we're not itchy and visibly sore), I'm seeing symptoms of intolerance again -- inc. crazy insomnia and gas, which is how my kids always react.  I've upped our (both) doses of probiotics and enzymes, but not seeing much improvement, and the nightwaking is really wearing on me.

Any suggestions on what could help me here?  Anyone else had this experience after a course of antibiotics?

Wow!  My sympathies.  From what I understand, it can take a long time to get the gut back in balance after a round of antibiotics, and your own unique blend of beasties might never be replicated exactly.  (Please do not lose heart after that statement!)

How long has it been?  Perhaps you need to give what you are doing more time.  In the meantime, some temporary elimination might be required.  How temporary is anyone's guess.  Definitely until things seem more "normal" and for a little while after.  Good luck!
