CassnBeth, last time I purchased a Doppler off eBay for about $100 and it worked out to be less expensive than renting.  It was a great doppler that let me hear the heartbeat starting at 9 weeks.  I used it once a week or so until 16 weeks, when I started feeling movement.  After that, only when I was really paranoid from lack of movement!  I thought it was a good investment in my peace of mind.

Do you know what brand of doppler that was? I really wanted to rent one with my daughter, but my husband talked me out of it because of cost.

I went and checked -- it is a Sonoline "Pocket Fetal Doppler" and is 3 Mhz (more sensitive, earlier heartbeat detection.)

I bought an angelsounds and heard the hb at 8.5 weeks with ds, 7w5d with my 3rd pg (which mc'ed)

(and yes my dates were bang on)

I paid 36 bucks incl shipping.

Ebay! I would never have thought of that. And I am really relieved that you guys have had success with buying dopplers instead of renting them for 25 dollars a month. Thanks!

I have an appt on August 4th, at 8 weeks.

Our last 2 pregnancies, which were both after many years of infertility, were both missed miscarriages. Lost our first one last November, ultrasound at 9 weeks showed a baby that measured 6 and no h/b. Lost the second one in early May, ultrasound at 8 weeks showed a baby that measured 6 1/2 and no heartbeat. Both didn't complete until 10 weeks.

I am also 42, so the chances aren't as good for me. We just got placement a few weeks ago of our 2 year old daughter that we are in the process of adopting. She'll keep us busy enough that the time until the ultrasound will fly by, I'm sure!

I had an ultrasound just to check the dates, but it was too early to see the heartbeat. I took comfort in the fact that everything looked normal and round (with three of my miscarriages, the sac looked elongated), but I'll still feel better when I have a proper heart fluttering on the screen!

I got a call back that my beta levels doubled like they should between Tues. and Thurs. this week. My ob wants me to come in for an ultrasound next Thursday to double the confirmation that things are going like they should. I'll be 5w6days, and I'd like to see the heartbeat, but it will probably be a little too early.

Well that was inconclusive. I had my ultrasound today at six weeks two days; the baby looked perfect, measuring six weeks one day(crown-rump length 4.58mm) with a heartbeat of 104. Great, right? But the gestational sac measured three or four days smaller than the fetal pole which I guess can be a bad sign? I had never heard of this before. And when I try to look it up on google I get a lot of women who had much larger size discrepancies; more like two weeks than a matter of days with their babies being able to reach out and touch the gestational sacs. So I have no idea what to think about this. I go back for another ultrasound next Friday. Limbo continues.

Can i join you guys?  Waiting to hear a heartbeat is so hard.  I scheduled my dr visit out as late as possible because last time we saw a beating heart, thoght we were safe, and told everyone.  A missed mc later and i think id rather not know, id rather pretend everything is fine until proof otherwise.  Appt is for Aug 4th, i'll be 9 weeks 4 days at that point.

Everything just seems so surreal.

It is so surreal. I feel like we're just going through the motions with the testing, and it won't feel real for awhile. Good luck to everyone!

Cameragirl: Yay on the numbers! I'm a little worried that my Ob scheduled me a little too early 7w1d and I know i wont take it well if we can't see the heartbeat even tho i know it is just a week before suggested and I saw my DS's at 7w but still... sigh. Her next available appointment wasn't till end of august. 

CassnBeth: I wouldn't worry about it too much. It is really hard to get an more that week discrepancy accuracy. I have identical boys and at my 7w ultrasound one measured 6 days larger than the other and that is impossible!

BacconLover: That was the same thing I wanted to do but the options were 7w1d or 11w1d I didn't think I could last that long.

I'm going in for betas on Saturday and Monday.  I'm a little disturbed my pee tests have not been getting as dark as I remember over the same period of time with my son.

Ardent my tests didn't get NEARLY as dark as quick this time around. People were worried for me... But the bean is fine! They catch up. I don't thing hcg rises steadily. Sometimes it slows down and sometimes it speeds up again. Please try not to worry. <3

Cameragirl I had an ultrasound with DS at 5w5d (baby measured 5w6d) and no heartbeat yet. came back 12 days later and there it was!

Yay for a heartbeat!!!  And a good number at that.

Would not give the sac measurements a second thought.  When you are dealing with such TINY measurements,it is almost impossible to be entirely accurate.

I'm not really expecting to see the heartbeat with this u/s, but I figure they'll probably have me back in a week or two if they don't see it anyways. I'm just crossing my fingers and praying that this bean sticks.

It's crazy how every day just seems to drag on...  Maybe it would feel more real if I had ms, as it is, I just keep using more hpt, looking at the two lines and just staring. Yep, still positive.  It's going to be a long month before my appt.

Oh, mercy, the anxiety is pretty awful right now. I have my u/s on Thursday, but I will be only 6 weeks or 6 weeks and one day. The scheduled my appointment based on lmp. but my cycles are much longer than the 28 days and I ovulated, I think, on day 18 or 19. Should I expect to see a heart beat this early? I remember seeing one with DS at 6 weeks 4 days....

Cassnbeth, hope your anxiety abates soon.. limbo is awful, but it seems to me like you god some good positive signs.

I'm 5w1d and just saw my home birth midwife for the first time yesterday.  She doesn't do HCG counts and only orders US if she suspects an issue or if the mother requests one - she's really hands off, which I love about her.  I have no history of MC but I do want an US just to confirm how many people are in there (I have no family history of twins, but you never know!) and to see that little heartbeat.  I'm scheduling mine shortly after I'm 7w and then I go back to see my midwife at 10 weeks; we should be able to hear it at that point and I'll be close enough to reaching my 2nd trimester that I'll probably be able to relax a little more - I hope!  I also plan on requesting one at 20 weeks because we did love knowing what we were having the first time around.
