How do you plan to reply..?

To comments about your belly size?

With DS it's like there was no pleasing me. If they said I wasn't showing yet, I'd be upset because I'm thinking "what, am I always this big?" If they said I WAS showing, but I felt it was just my own fat, not baby yet, I was offended also lol.

I don't know, something about being put on the spot about your body size/shape, in public... not really fun. But I never know what to say!

I anticipate a lot of "you're huge! Are there twins in there?!" types of comments this time, since I have ab separation from my DS. What do you say to that sort of thing?

Sometimes a "thank you" is sufficient to get your message across. Last time I felt like crud and was huge, and I just blankly stared at people that offered up comments. They usually feel so awkward that they end up stumbling over their own words. wink1.gif

I don't mind the "big" comments.  I actually like those and take them as a compliment.

It's the "you're so tiny" ones I don't like.  Makes me feel like I'm not doing a good job of growing baby.  I still don't know what to say.  Since most people know I have kids already they usually follow it up with "Are you always like that?"  To which I just say yes.

At 4.5 months pregnant, I had a very rude woman ask me if I was having twins? I happened to have been wearing a very billowy, unflattering non-maternity blouse that made me look big. I actually didn't gain much weight with that pregnancy.

I love people lol.

I plan to ignore them :) if anyone is exceptionally egregious I plan to say something along the lines of "did you REALLY just say that?" and laugh

I haven't really had any problems with my other 2 pregnancies....I only gained 15-18lbs so I didn't get any rude comments.  but uhmmm, right now I am like 6.5 weeks and I feel absolutely huge.  Should be interesting.  I'm very good at the evil eye lol.gif

I can't wait to get really big and then I can dance in response to any comments.  A friend of mine would do this pee-wee herman kind of dance, her Dr gave it to her to help flex and loosen up the hips.  It was awsome because when she'd rotate her hips forward and back, the whole belly would move up and down is this awsome mesmerizing way.

I want a nice big belly, and then I'll dance all the time.  It helps that I don't give a crap what anyone thinks :)  I'm going to have a fabulous time!

I think a lot of the comments must come from empathy though, because some preggo's I've seen just look so uncomfortable and miserable.  They really do look like they are going to pop like a volcano.  Maybe it's because I haven't gotten to that stage, but it doesn't seem like it would bug me that much, I mean, preggo's are supposed to get huge...  because they are preggo...  Everyone love's preggos, so what's the harm?

That said, the smart mouth in me is probably going to start making up crap about eating too much bacon and growing a litter of piglets in there, or before its obvious that there's something there and not just fat, I'll probably just make up stuff about eating too much and being a cream puff.  Or pretend I don't know what they are talking about, what weight gain???

I really should start thinking of this! I work in a field where I have to be polite to patrons, and so can't say or do anything that someone thinks would be rude. I got a ton of comments with DS1 from a volunteer, who would say each week how much "fatter" I was getting each time she saw me. I got comfortable enough to just roll my eyes at her. However, DS2 had some umbilical cord issues and I was in and out of the hospital in my 3rd tri, trying to keep his amniotic fluid up. I nearly cried when people would say how small I was, because I knew he was in danger.

I guess the best thing (for me) to say is something like "I'm right where my doctor/midwife wants me" and walk away.

You'll need to post a video, Bacon, so we can all learn to dance with you ;)

Looking back, I didn't get too many comments from the weirdos with my DD. Never once had a stranger touch my belly, either. I think the constant look of "oh crap - I'm going to vomit!" kept most of them away.
