- outdoor movie night (use an old bedsheet and a projector)
- tadpole hunting
- tie dying t-shirts (I always think of this as a summer activity, because it's messy and so it's easier to do it outdoors)
- if you get a cooler day - lawn sports like croquet or bocce
- forage for wild edibles (dandelions, nettles, wild berries.....there's a long list of "weeds" that are good eating) and make muffins or cookies or salad with your harvest
- plant a garden and tend it
- start a seasonal photo essay project and document the changes week-by-week eg. the garden or a construction site or a baby animal at the zoo
- visit a farmÂ
- go to the beach
- have a picnic in the park
- explore your local area - once a week pick a different area and visit an attraction (minor historical site or park) or if you have public transit, take a bus on a route you've never gone on beforeÂ
- cooking projects - give him responsibility for cooking a meal once a week, or try baking bread from scratch, or pick a different region and explore the cuisine of Greece or Japan or South Africa or Pennsylvania Dutch...whatever
