Snappy Comebacks to Rude Comments...

In the March 2012 Due Date Club some of us have posted a bit about the all too-common rude response to a pregnancy announcement.  I know I've heard some great comeback suggestions over the years and thought it would be fun to corral everyone's comebacks in a thread.  What rude comments and snappy comebacks do you know of for pregnancy announcements OR family size??

Some of my favorites:

"You know what causes that, don't you?"

"Yes, apparently we're good at it."

"You know what causes that, don't you?"

"God."

"You guys should really get television."

"We found something we enjoy more."

A favorite comeback I recently read:

"Boy you have your hands full."

"Isn't that the point?  Since when was the idea to have empty hands?"

"Boy you have your hands full."

"I know.  Isn't it great?!"

"Better you than me."

"I agree."  :)

"Was this planned?"

"Of course; God has a plan for every child."

My husband has a sweet - very bold - female friend who asked us...after #5 I think....if we were going to have more.  He just looked at her long enough for her to feel awkward and said, "that's kind of private, don't you think?"  Another female friend was there and she said, "Yeah, Kerry - that was rude."   She hasn't asked again.

Okay - your's?

In response to "Again?!" I say stuff like:

"Yeah, its a recurring condition. It runs in the family"  .. and if necessary, reference grandma who had 6 kids, mom who had 5, and my brothers who have 4, 5, and 4 kids. And maybe even get into my aunts who had 8, 6, and 4. And my cousins with 5/6. heh heh heh.

My favorite response was to just to blankly stare at them until they start mumbling out an apology.

Love these! We are only on #2, so no real comments on family size. Now that we know this one is a girl, and our first was a boy, we are getting these comments to the effect of "so you are done now?" and shocked faces when I say, well, actually, we'd like one more probably. No snappy come backs though . . . The only snappy comeback I have ever actually been able to employ w/ regards to pregnancy was to DH's uncle (who is a bit of a character) when he was commenting that DH must miss the sex. I said, well, no he wasn't, it's the closest thing to a three-way he's ever going to get!

he hasn't said anything about sex to me since! LOL

Pregnancy #3. 2 boys so far. When people tell me that they really hope it's a girl, I agree, telling them "Yeah, I really hope it's a girl too because if it isn't, we would of course leave him at the hospital"

As I was getting the mail my childless middle-aged next door neighbor lady asked me "Are you done breeding yet?" lol I had no idea what to say to that.

UGH.  Gross.  How about, "I don't know; have you developed any class yet?"  How rude!

Love this!!  I have a little girl and just found out I am having a boy.  People always say "Oh I bet your happy its a boy, now you have one of each!" or "I bet your husband is happy!"  like if it were another girl we would be so upset...  Even that irritates me a little.  It wouldnt matter to me one bit either way.  I have heard of people who find out they are having the same sex child as their last, and people say to them "Oh, too bad, I bet you were hoping for a (opposite sex of first child)"  AGH!

Yeah, the whole one of each thing is weird. I think having a same sex sibling is great! Probably projecting my own childhood onto my own kids though ;) I always wished for a sister. I'm the youngest of 4 brothers. dh has 1 sister and never cared about not having a brother. Maybe its the being SURROUNDED by boys thing? haha. Anyway, I really want to give dd a sister and ds a brother!

I always just say something along the lines of "oh goody, now we'll have the complete set..."
