I'll admit I haven't been reading this thread much for the past 6 months, but I wanted to come by and say hi and let you all know I have a beautiful baby daughter Lorelei, born 8/11/11.  I hope it is encouraging to hear (and doesn't sound like I'm bragging) that even though I'm a 43-year old couch potato that had a difficult first birth I had an AMAZING 90 minute comfortable home birth.  I don't know how to attach pictures but she's such a sweetie and has been an easy baby to care for.  Of course I'm still exhausted, but haven't suffered the post-partum depression that plagued me with my first baby.

This thread was so helpful to me when I was ttc and I wish all of you peace and joy in your motherhood journies.

Congratulations and thank you for sharing such a positive story!

Thank you ladies!

I love following along with everyone!

Lots of baby dust around here!

We are right back on the TTC track.  I feel physically recovered from the miscarriage.  Much better than the last one. (both emotionally & physically)

I am nervous that I am signing myself up for heart break.  Even though all the tests we did said

we are "good to go"....anyone else feel that fear?

Interesting to me is that my progesterone was all over the place my last pregnancy before I miscarried..Now, it  is right on track this cycle.

I am supplementing anyway, also taking B's, prenatal,  folate, omega III & pregnenolone.

Any other suggestions?

Ditto the hysterosalpinogram.  (which I've mentioned before here)  We were trying for 18 months -- nothing.  Got pregnant the cycle after the hysterosalpinogram.  My midwife and the OB who did my surgery say they see this happen all the time.  (Note that I was NOT diagnosed with any blockage -- my tubes were supposedly clear.)

I'm just catching up.

Halifax, I am soooo happy about that heartbeat. That is a big step, I know!! Still sending good wishes.

alittlesandy--beautiful u/s. That is awesome!!

bookwormommy, CONGRATULATIONS!!! What a beautiful name and birthday day, and an inspiring birth story. I'm sooo glad you don't have PPD. Thank you for stopping by.

Welcome Mittens and Cenedra43!!

Thank you to all who left me supportive comments. I really appreciate them. I had a very strange period. 1 day of very heavy bleeding, then medium bleeding, and then 5 days of spotting. Just more information that it was probably a chemical pregnancy. I found that discouraging. I need to find a doctor I like to consult with. I have an appointment with my TCM person today. That will be good.

Waturmama, I'm sorry to hear you feel you had another chemical pregnancy. Are you able to get some testing done that Dr Beer talks about? Here is a link to their site: http://www.repro-med.net/repro-med-site2/ I have heard the tests are expensive, and I would be reluctant for that reason alone.  I hope your TCM person can help you. I have great faith in TCM, and I'm hoping it will help me out too.

I am having another period that is barely there, along with a lot of discomfort.I feel "stuck" and just want to have a "free" flow. I feel I was fobbed off by my docotr, who wouldn't even discuss that I have a temperature rise and "period" at the expected time, which suggests I'm ovulating. But because my estrogen is low she says that can't be. Would anovulatory bleeding be right on time, when your temperature drops?Would my body produce adequate progesterone to cause a temperature rise (a "normal rise" as far as I can see) if there was no egg? I feel so confused.

My TCM person says it is all down to the miscarriages and I need time to get back on track. She says I still have a decent "yin" pulse, which I wouldn't have if I was peri-menopausal. I'm trying so hard to remain positive, but it is difficult.

I turned 45 yesterday and like you Skeemama I wonder if I'm setting myself up for heartache. But then again, we might just get our rainbow babies and imagine the joy of that?

Alittlesandy-I'm so happy to hear your wonderful news. You are 15 weeks, how wonderful!

Congratulations on the birth of your little girl, Bookwormommy! Such wonderful news.

And Halifax, so happy to hear you are forging forward.

There have been so many successes on this board, it is heartening.

Can I ask you what a "yin" pulse is? Sorry to sound ignorant but I have not heard that term before..

I also have a HUGE question for everyone. Last month was the first month I had a way too long cycle where my body kept trying to ovulate, but wasn't able to until CD 40, then I had a 7 day LP. The cycle before was a chemical pregnancy with a line then got my AF with a 7 day LP.

The cycles before the past 3 were all very normal. I still ovulate regularly, have normal temp rise, and mostly a normal luteal phase and flow. Here is my question.. I am 47 and the reports out there are gloom and doom about getting pregnant at all. Do you think I still have any kind of chance?

I think I am one of the oldest ladies here, and I just wondered if any of you could offer some ideas.

Thanks Christi

Congrats Bookwormommy! Thanks for coming by to update!

I've been feeling ... odd lately....we've been having all this unprotected s*x and so far, no BFP. I got pregnant with both my kids on our first try. It feels like something *should* be happening. It's not yet sunk in that I'm almost 10 years older than the last time I got pregnant. Anyway...just feeling these odd feelings...

Hi there, I'm new to Mothering, but very happy to have found this site.  I turned 40 in May and my husband and I just decided last weekend that we are going to TTC.  Right now we are not telling anyone, so its a relief to be able to talk about it here  :-)  This will be a first baby for us;  I'm currently a kitty-mom to a sweet old lady cat and a feisty boy cat. heartbeat.gif

I'm elated and nervous all at once.  The amount of information to take in is kind of overwhelming, but I'm trying not to go crazy with researching before I have my conception appt. with the midwife next Thurs.  geek.gif

The one thing I'm upset about is that two years ago, we had considered trying, and my doctor at the time told me I needed to get the chicken pox vaccination (I have never had the pox and blood work showed no immunity).  A few months after that we decided not to try, and I blew it off, being pretty sure that we were not going to have children.  Now, from what I am reading, I'll have to wait anywhere from 1-3 months to TTC?  argh.  Oh well, I guess I'll have plenty of time to start charting my cycles and preparing. It's just very disappointing to put it off even further (after having already waited until 40 to try).

Still it is an exciting time!

Amommy, the "yin" pulse is one of the pulses that my acupuncturist checks. Apparently in traditional chinese medicine there is more than one pulse to check. She says that when the yin pulse is very depleted it means that you are approaching menopause. She said mine is still okay and she feels sure that it is just my body readjusting after the miscarriages. However, I still feel uncertain, as I've just had "AF", but it was pretty much a no show. I had a temperature drop at the right time, cramping, but nothing much more than a brown discharge. It's so frustrating, as I don't feel ready to give up.

As for your cycle is sounds like a "one off", but I believe as we get older we may have different cycles, but it doesn't mean it is all over for us. If you are worried about your LP being too short, you could try B vitamins.

Is anyone else eating primal/paleo? I've just read Nora Gedgauda's book Primal Body, Primal Mind. I love it, it seems to make so much sense. It's given me renewed vigour to stick to this way of eating. I'm hoping it may help me feel well and perhaps even help with fertility.

Miss Sonja, is feeling "odd" a sign of pregnancy for you? How many days post ovulation are you? Will you test?

I'm off to the farmer's market now - need to stock up on grass fed meats and goats cheese...

The Winter thread is finally up. Sorry for the delay. I think I have updated all the new people, if you want me to include your age please put it in bold on the new thread. I think I may be missing a BFP or a baby or two so please check and make sure I have your information updated.

Thanks

Kristin

Yes my friend ghostwrote that book for her and is a good friend of Nora's. I swear by gluten free, legume free eating and fertility. I think good fats are also very important for fertility. I have not read Nora's updated book but I do know that she personally cut out dairy as she felt it was too inflammatory so I'm not sure of that info is in her updated book or not.

I eat paleo/high raw and think it is responsible for my fertility, healthy pregnancies, babies etc; I've eaten variations of raw/primal/paleo diets for many years now. It's something that works for me.

When I ate a grain based macrobiotic diet I didn't ovulate, tried fertility drugs etc; it took changing that and then as the years went on and I became older I actually got more fertile.

Do you feel are ways there are ways to stay pregnant? So much of what goes on here and things I know about are about getting pregnant. What about staying pregnant.

I do feel this is complicated. I mean you don't want to force a pregnancy if the fetus has issues but what about just keeping mom and baby strong??

Greenmama66-could you tell me more about your diet? I am wondering about specifics like meals, menus etc. (I have the book Nutritional Healing.)

Hello Ladies,

I am new to the forum.  But I am sure glad that I found it.  My DH and I are getting ready to have a vasectomy reversal and start trying for our first child together.  I have three and he has 1 from previous marriages.  But something keeps pulling us in the direction of having a child together.  Here is the hard part.  I am 41 now and he is 55.  (I had not been worrying much about his age until I saw the post about the men's age from Contactmaya. :)

I am concerned about how long it might take me to get pregnant.  My youngest is almost 12 and with all my other pregnancies all I had to do was think about getting pregnant and I was.  Will that happen again?  How long will it take my DH to have sperm after the reversal?  This is all a lot to think about.  I am worried that it will take too long.  I see that gumblossom has been through this part.

Are we too late to try?  I am scared to have a baby after 43.  That is my mental cut off.  Is there anything that we can do to get the sprem coming sooner. :)

All your input will be great!

Samgat
