Vitamin K drops for newborn

I bought some Vitamin K drops from BirthWithLove.com. We are circumcising and I wanted to do something for the clotting factor but my research led me to believe that the Vitamin K shots given in the hospital are too high of a dosage and then too many preservatives. I think the shots are 1 mg of Vitamin K. I just realized that my oral drops are 2 mg vit K (one drop to be given at birth, 1 week, and 1 month). That would mean that my oral drops which are supposed to have less vit K and be safer has double the amount of the hospital shots -- I am so confused! Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you.

While I can not comment specifically on oral Vitamin K at birth or soon after, as I am not a midwife, I can explain the difference in dosing.  Any vitamin that is injected will generally be a lower dose, as it does not have to go through the digestive tract and liver detoxification pathways of an oral dose.  An injection of vitamin will go straight into the stores of the body, whereas the oral dose needs to account for the amount lost in the digestive and liver detox process.
