Hi, My 5 year old hip keeps popping out

Now they are recommending surgery.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem, thank you

My two year old has a different genetic condition besides Downs, but has low muscle tone.  They are x-raying his hips periodically to check for subluxation ('popping' out) and he recently was x-rayed and showed it was a 50% subluxation.  We're actually thinking that it 'pops' in and out rather then stays subluxed - his PT thinks it is due to the low muscle tone not keeping it in.  They mentioned surgery but my PT said that it's a pretty big and painful surgery, and she recommended we work on increasing muscle strength to work on keeping it in.

I don't know if it is the same thing as your son - does he see a PT?  I'm of the mindset that I'd rather give it a bit working intensely on muscle strength then surgery, but my little guy is a lot younger then yours.

Good luck!
