This goes for helping them to stand and "walking" them too.  She needs to find her own way into and out of sitting, and if she has been doing other things like rolling over, creeping and crawling she will find her way.  Another drawback to propping babies into positions they are not yet ready for is that on some level it gives them the message that what they can do is not good enough and what they can't yet do is expected of them.  Enjoy the process with her.

This sounds interesting and I just looked up the Feldenkrais method, which sounds interesting, too. I wonder if it could help my husband with his back pain...

But I don't agree with that bolded part. You make it sound like it negatively affects their self esteem or something. I showed my daughter how she could use her arms to "tripod" at 3 months and then she sat all by herself at 4 months. Then, she figured out how to crawl and I showed her how to pull up at 6 months and she did it. She is 7.5 months and I think she will walk alone in the next 2-3 weeks. My child was downright angry back when she couldn't physically move and control her body, though. She was so much happier once she discovered playing while sitting. I think we should show babies how to do things and if the time is right, they'll get it and it will help them move forward.
