Mail Order Celiac Genes Test

Anyone know what companies will do mail order celiac genetic testing? I know Enterolabs is one, any others?

The gene test is not very useful without the other resting to go with it.  It just means you MAY get Celiac sometime, maybe.

The one I have heard about (I believe) is My Celiac ID.

Thanks. My DD seems to be IGA deficient, so we'd like to see what the results are of the genetic test. We aren't interested in doing a biopsy on her. Do you know if there is other labwork that isn't based on IGA results?

From my (Very very) quick read, a person with an IgA diff. can have false -'s on the Celiac test.  Have you seen a GI doc?  They could explain it better I am sure.  The celiac panel is usually the starting point for a CD diagnosis.  If you aren't interested in the biopsy and the panel is hard to pin down with the IgA issue, I am not sure where I would start other than a GI doc.  You can always refuse the biopsy (we did for a long time I know!)

Sorry, not much help I know.

Good luck!

Thanks. The ped won't refer us to a GI, as he says "all results are normal," despite her IGA being low. It was 17, range was 24-140something. I'm trying to convince DH just to do a trial, but he seems to want something on paper.

Thing is, getting the blood test prior to going GF really is the best thing to do, even if you think it may a) be off and b) won't do the biopsy.

Once you go GF, there isn't anything you can do testing wise other than the gene test, which I said, it pretty much useless without the other testing.

Does your DD have S&S that you think it's Celiac?  While your Dr. may not want to refer you to a GI, can you pressure her/him to humor you with the Celiac Panel?  (Again, not that that is as reliable given the IgA thing).  I would really push for that IF you are seeing S&S of Celiac.  Once you go GF, you would have to go back on gluten to do the blood test.  That's hard for a variety of reasons not the least of which is that you give the kid something she loves and find it is gluten that is the issue and have to take it away again.   I get what your DH is saying too.  GF isn't easy and it's not fun.  I am currently (after over a year of being GF) trying to detect why my DS's levels aren't normal yet and driving myself mad with it.  I wouldn't be doing any of this if I didn't HAVE to.  It's tough.
